OTUG_TwinCities egroup
We introduced the use of this egroup in April 2001 to take advantage of the features readily available from Yahoo Groups (formerly egroups.com)

Features we use

Members can share emails with our entire membership directory by sending to the egroup email address or by logging onto the yahoo group home page and posting the message there.  You can log onto the home page from any internet accessible browser.  Logging onto the home page does require a Yahoo account and offers additional features beyond the email message list that is retained there.
   
Email features
Choices in receipt mode:
   Getting each individual email sent to your email account is the default mode.  If you log onto Yahoo, you can edit your choice to get them bundled and sent combined once a day, or not have them sent as emails at all.  The messages are retained on the website and you can go look when you get to it.
Archive Search
   You can search the repository of past messages
Message Threads

Additional features
Files
   We use folders to specify categories and share documents here instead of passing them around as email attachment copies.
Bookmarks
   Folders to organize categories. hyperlinks with descriptions are added here by any member that wants to share them.  These bookmarks are available to any internet visitor.  You do not have to be a OTUG_TwinCities subscriber to see this section of the group site. 
Database
   Easily constructed spreadsheet-like lists for various purposes.  For instance, this is one place where we put FAQ answers about our use for the site.  We also use these to add contact information for job openings that may be of interest to our members.
Polls
   Adding a poll questions provides the ability to survey our members and see the results online.
