IDEA and ANT

Do you find refactoring rewarding yet tedious? Does your development team suffer from integration nightmares? Come see how a change in your toolset can boost your productivity by speeding up your refactoring sessions and reducing your integration efforts. Arun Batchu and Scott Sirovy will show how their programming efforts got a powerful boost by using intellij.com's powerful Java IDE called IDEA and its integration with apache.org's ANT.

If you are a user of any of the above tools, come share your knowledge with the group. If you are curious what the heck Arun and Scott are excited about you can try out Idea at http://www.intellij.com/idea and ANT at http://ant.apache.org/. They are convinced after using these tools, you will not want to program in Java any other way. For a background of why you would want to use these tools, please read http://www.martinfowler.com/articles/refactoringRubicon.html. To know more about refactoring, you can peruse http://www.refactoring.com

Scott Sirovy has over ten years of programming experience and has worked exclusively in Java for the last three and a half years. He has designed and constructed distributed applications working in business logic and GUI development. Scott has studied design patterns, OO technologies and tools, and has led development teams for many companies in the twin cities area. He currently works for a hedge fund where he helps develop proprietary stock trading systems. You can reach Scott at ssirovy at arbitrade dot com.

Arun Batchu is a Java bigot and is obsessed with increasing human productivity via tools. He works with an agile development team at Terago communications and is responsible for providing technological direction in the Human Computer Interface division. You can reach Arun at arun at acm dot org.
