Presentation Slides and Sample Code
Servlets are self-contained components that provide a mechanism to extend server functions. They are a flexible, configurable tool that allows the programmer to provide just the right amount of additional features to a web-based application in a resource friendly way. The April, 2002 Java_SIG meeting will be a presentation of a Java Servlets Tutorial. The presentation provides the basics of:
Stephen Thompson has been programming for 15 years in C, Prolog, and Java. He is employed at Advantus Capital Management, Inc. a local investment firm. His current projects include a B2B web-site and a Swing-based property inspection application for the mortgage industry. He is working on an MS in SE at St. Thomas. He currently volunteers as the Treasurer for OTUG.
Presentation Slides and Sample Code:
In preparation for the next Java_SIG meeting on April 25th you may download the presentation slides and example code from the Java Users Group page, which is hosted by Intertech Inc. The ZIP file is about 1.7 MB and is listed under October, 2000.
I will be going over **highlites** of the Servlet Tutorial (the slide presentation is 90 slides) and show how to get the 6 example servlets up and running. I will also show you the basic structure of a servlet and how you can then take the examples and replace parts with your own ideas/code. This will give you a "playground" framework to continue learning servlets on your own.
Cost:
There is no cost to attend. Complimentary light refreshments will be provided by Advanced Technologies Integration, Inc. (ATI, www.atico.com).
Acknowledgements:
The OTUG Java Sig would like to thank Spherion (www.spherion.com) for providing the LCD projector, and Advanced Technologies Integration, Inc. (ATI, www.atico.com) for providing refreshments.
