Complete example of putting of deploying a Java Web Start program via a WAR [zip]

Synopsis:

This will be a hands-on session. Please bring your laptop, if you have one. We will team up for those that do not have laptops.

A CD will be available which will have all necessary software (JDK 1.4, Tomcat, Apache, example source code)

We will go over the following:

  • What is Java Web Start? (App to easily deploy Java Apps from a web page)
  • Installing Java Web Start and running Sun's demo applications
  • Security issues - the Java Web Start sandbox and jar signing
  • Updating your application
  • Talking to servlets
  • How to create a highly interactive form using Java Web Start
  • A simple example of a networked game which uses Java Web Start clients

I'll bring "starter" source code - so don't worry about having to write tons of code! I know how hard that is to do after programming all day. Hope to see you there!
