Abstract:

The presentation will outline an approach that was taken to refactoring on a distributed team of 12 developers. The team was located in 5 locations, in 4 different time zones. The scope of the refactoring was client code, meaning Java servlets. The development team had not been properly training in OO concepts and the refactoring was used as a technique for teaching OO concepts. The refactoring efforts spanned over a 18 month period. One of the examples reviewed will be the implementation of the GOF "State" pattern for managing screen navigation.
